Dating can either be a fun and enjoyable experience or, in some case, a frightening experience. There are many dangerous situations that can occur, and have occurred in the past, due to online dating. Scammers show up with a different identity, or intention than what was written on their profile, while catching a potentially vulnerable subject in an unguarded moment.

It’s extremely easy to provide false information via the Internet. A predator can be almost whoever they want to be when cruising an online dating site. Criminals, predators, and scammers are, on a daily basis, actively joining social networking and dating sites and setting up fake profiles that are often stolen from the Internet.

According to an article in Scientific American, research studies have shown that more than 90% of people lie in their social media and online dating profiles. While some of these lies may seem harmless, others can lead a truly honest person in believing the person is safe and desirable when they are actually dangerous with other ulterior motives.

The concept of online dating is appealing to many people because it gives them access to potential interests that they would otherwise never have found in a normal dating scenario.  In this day and age many people, especially women of all ages, fall victim to dangerous predators on dating websites.  While this is not reason enough to avoid using a dating site altogether, it should cause a person to desire more information before allowing themselves to be put in a potentially dangerous situation.
